Dendronephthya Australis choker
Dendronephthya Australis choker
The Dendronephthya australis choker is named after the endangered New South Whales Cauliflower Soft Coral. This integral species is the first soft coral species in Australian history to be listed as threatened. The organic formations of the choker have been formed by material research, testing by melting varied density waxes and pouring them into varied vessel shapes with various water temperatures to create biomimetic growth formations. Post-process they are then hand-formed and built into pieces to create jewellery formations. This piece was created with anchor points for the choker to be worn either way. One size is an organic formation, the other is made in square wire wax to create a rupture in the form where the manufactured chain and findings are attached to the cast form. The juxtaposition of visual forms seeks to comment on the species being threatened by man-made and industrial interference in its survival due largely to poor anchoring, fishing mooring, and sand movements.
