Currently based in Naarm (Melbourne) on the land of the Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation, Victoria, Australia.

Naarm/Melbourne-based Australian artist Angela Louise Powell graduated with her BFA – Visual Art in Sculpture and Spatial Practice at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2015,  as well as a BFA Honours degree of Visual Art at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2017. Melbourne-based artist Angela Louise Powell was born in December of 1992 in Melbourne, Australia. Powell obtained a Certificate II in Engineering, as well as a Certificate IV in Custom Made Footwear before starting her university degree in visual art. Powell graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts - Visual Art Sculpture and Spatial Practice program in 2015.

After being awarded the 2015 Majlis Travelling scholarship Powell then took a gap year in her studies for overseas travel for technical and career development taking a jewellery course in West Germany at Hochschule Trier, Campus Idar-Oberstein Department of Gemstones and Jewellery. As well as a forging course at Penland School of Craft in rural North Carolina, USA. Powell then returned to Australia in 2017 to attend and graduated from her Honours year in Visual Art at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited at the Victorian College of the Arts gallery spaces, Margaret Lawrence Gallery, George Paton Gallery, Bus Projects, Creative Spaces’ Dirty Dozen Project Space, as well as BLINDSIDE Gallery for their Summer Studio Residency program for 2016/17.

In 2018 she moved to Berlin, Germany to participate in two international residencies in collaboration with fellow Australian artist Jessie Burrows. They participated in residency programs with both GlogauAir gGmbH and ZK/U (Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik). Within these programs, they participated in four public studio-based exhibitions. In 2020, Angela will be taking part in Test Sites Online a funded development program with eh City of Melbourne for public art projects. She will also be participating in Community Transmissions an online artist residency with collaborative artist Jessie Burrows on further developing projects for their collaborative practice Persuasion Architects.

Her work predominantly investigates the notion of liminal space as an emotional threshold or barrier through an applied investigation of industrial and elemental materials such as precious metals, as well as coloured light. Powell’s sculptural practice employs the nature of the materials to engage with a psychoanalytical exploration of notions of an emotional threshold, her installations sketch personal understandings of psychological spaces. In the last few years, her solo and collaborative practice has been researching semiotics of urban and architectural spaces, as well as digital spaces, and how they influence and inform the emotions of its inhabitants.
